Symposium on “Literatures and the Studies of

Canton Thirteen Hongs”

(The first Announcement)

Dear Professor ,

“Thirteen Hongs” is a calling card for the city of Guangzhou in the process when China was approaching to the world history. As a traditional field of historical research, “Thirteen Hongs” is a historical and cultural heritage of worldwide significance, which is also of great significance in the construction of Guangzhou as a famous cultural city. With the aim to further promote the literatures collection and the studies of Canton Thirteen Hongs, institutions of Guangzhou Association of Social Science Societies, Guangzhou Local Gazetteer Society, Canton Hongs Research Centre of Guangzhou University and the Guangzhou Archivistics Society will jointly hold a symposium on “Literatures and the Studies of Canton Thirteen Hongs”. Your profound knowledge and productive achievements in the relevant fields are highly appreciated. Therefore, we sincerely invite you to participate the symposium and to share your inspiring ideas with the other scholars. Following are the items concerning the symposium:

I. Time and Venue

September 20-21, 2013, Venue: Guangzhou National Archives (No.33, West Fifth Road, Guangzhou University Town, Guangzhou).

II. Paper Requirements

Please write a paper on a certain topic appointed by the symposium (see Appendix II), email the reply slip and abstract to the Preparatory Committee before March 30, 2013. Please submit via email the paper (full text) to the Committee before July 30, 2013. The Committee will issue a formal Letter of Invitation when the paper is received (only one paper for one participant). An abstract with 200 words and three to five keywords are required in front of the paper. The sources of quotations and historical materials should be clarified (in the form of footnotes), a short CV of the author should be attached at the end of the paper.

III. Expense

The transportation to and from Guangzhou are at the own expenses of the participants, the Preparatory Committee provides the participants with accommodation (covers room and board) and local transportation during their stay in Guangzhou. Symposium fee will not be charged.
